Mangalore, Aug 7: A public grievance redressal meet presided over by the Mangalore South MLA J R Lobo was held here on Wednesday August 7 at former deputy mayor Anusuya Maben’s residence at Dambel, Ashoknagar.
The prime issue put forth by the public was that regarding the underground drainage system. They said that many areas of this ward have been facing various problems with regard to the drainage, especially manhole overflow, leakage, pipeline damage and so on.
Road widening, especially from Urwa Store to Shediguri was another main issue that was discussed in the meet. With regard to cleanliness, some of the locals said that waste management has not been mainatained well. "Weeds and plants have been left unattended," said some locals.
A few said that though garbage had been collected from their doorsteps, it was being dumped near the bins, from where stray dogs drag them out and litter around in the surroundings, thereby increasing chances of spreading diseases in the vicinity.
"Fogging and spraying of anti-mosquito chemicals have not been done from quite a long time," the locals pointed out.
Problems related to electricity, waste water and a few more issues were discussed in the meeting.
In response, MLA J R Lobo discussed the above issues with the engineers and officials concerned and directed them to find permanent solutions for the problems, and ensure that they are not repeated.
