M’lore: Karnataka bank wins IDRBT banking technology awards

Mangalore, Aug 6: Karnataka Bank Ltd a leading private sector bank, headquartered at Mangalore, has bagged the coveted IDRBT Banking Technology Excellence Awards for the year 2012-13, among “Small Banks”, under the following categories:

1. Best Bank Award for Managing IT Risks
2. Best Bank Award for use of IT for business innovation

The awards were presented by Dr D Subba Rao, governor, Reserve Bank of India in a glittering function held at Institute for Development and Research in Banking Technology [IDRBT], Hyderabad on August 2.

P Jayarama Bhat, managing director and CEO of bank received the awards on behalf of the Bank. He was accompanied by P Jairama Hande, general manager [IT &MIS, TAD] and CFO.

It may be recalled that the bank had earlier bagged the “Special Award for Managing IT risk”, instituted by IDRBT, in 2011 and the coveted ISO 27001:2005 Certificate of Registration from NQA [National Quality Assurance] for it’s IT set up in 2012.

“These awards demonstrate Karnataka Bank’s commitment to maintaining global standards of safety and security in the use of information technology and also making the best and innovative use of the same to enhance the levels of customer service and satisfaction” said Sri P. Jayarama Bhat, MD and CEO of the Bank.

The bank is into its 90th Year of purposeful banking and eyeing a business turnover of `78000 crore [Deposits `45,500 crore and advances of `32,500 crore] for the current fiscal. The bank has a network of 1097 Service Outlets comprising of 556 branches and 541 ATMs spread across the country.

The Bank is poised to increase the number of its service outlets to 1200 by the end of the current fiscal by expanding its branch and ATM network across India.
