Mangalore, Aug 4: Rani Abbakka Festival committee president K Jayaram Shetty on Saturday August 3 slammed speaker Kagodu Thimmappa for questioning the service of Rani Abbakka for the country, and said that the insult to Rani Abbakka was unfortunate.
"The speaker should apologize for having insulted her without knowing history or else minister U T Khader should do so on his behalf, failing which, we will call for bandh in Ullal," Shetty warned.
He was giving the keynote address at the Rani Abbakka circle at Ullal protesting against the recent statement by the speaker. The protest was staged under the aegis of BJP Mangalore unit.
"While MLAs Mohiudeen Bava and Shakuntala Shetty are praising Abbakka, Tulunadu and Tulu language, four ministers from Dakshina Kannada who were present when the speaker insulted Abbakka did not respond to the situation. This has given rise to suspicion," he said. "Besides that, U T Khader who is the honorary president of the committee which celebrates in memory of Rani Abbakka every year has remained silent."
He criticized the Congress party saying that they could only distribute the land from the landlords to the farmers but could not bring in cooperative agriculture or collective agriculture reforms among them. "They say that Congress party brought independence but they are unable to understand the adventures, sacrifice, life and pain of the freedom fighters," he said.
Zilla panchayat member Santosh Kumar Rai Boliyaru, Seetaram Bangera, Santosh Kumar Rai Boliyaru, Satish Kumar Kumpala, Balakrishna Banajalu, Jayashree, Rajeevi Kempumannu and others were present at the protest meeting.
