Kasargod, Aug 3: In a case of suspected rape and murder, a decomposed body of a woman was found in a rented room at Uppala here on Saturday August 3.
The woman has been identified as Ulugamma (40) of Hingavalli, Bijapur. Her suspected paramour, Santhosh (42) is missing. The body was found to be naked and rape and robbery is suspected in the case.
Police are on the lookout for Santhosh and believe that the case can be solved only by his arrest.
It is said that Ulugamma and Biajpur’s Santhosh came in contact while they were employed as labourers during road works in Manipal, and subsequently fell in love. Ulugamma had eloped with Santhosh after getting Rs 50,000 as share in the sale of her Taravadu house. They took up a rented room at Uppala by telling the landlord that they were a married couple.
The room was locked for the last four days and neighbors broke the door due to foul smell emanating out from it. There they found the dead body of the woman. They contacted her relatives by the telephone number found in the room. The relatives who arrived this morning have identified the body.
Ulugamma’s daughter, son Mounesh and relative Nagesh have come from Bijapur. The relatives have said that Ulugamma had nearly Rs 60,000 consisting of her share of Rs 50,000 from the sold property and Rs 10,000 earned as wages. The police suspect that the murder has taken place for her money. Rape also is not ruled out.
Forensic and fingerprint experts have arrived to assist the police investigations. The body has been taken to Pariyaram Medical College hospital for post mortem.
Meanwhile, Ulugamma's husband Paladiyappa who was ill for sometime, is said to have died on Friday.
