Bangalore, Jan 30: The Federation of Konkani Catholic Associations (FKCA) held a Cultural and food carnival at St. Joseph's Indian High School on Sunday, Janaury 29.
Honour for Ducont's Ivan Fernandes from minister Sindhia
State's minister finance and industry P G R Sindhia was the chief guest, with MLC Winnifred Fernandes as the guest of honour. Three Mangalorean personalities were honoured at the function.
Brilliant's A V Rego being honoured
A V Rego who rose from a humble beginning to establish his Brilliant Printers, currently employing 200 workers, was honoured with the "Lifetime Achievement Award" for his achievements.

Ivan Fernandes of Ducont, who has not only made a name in the IT industry at Dubai, but also has been allotted 50 acres of land in Mangalore for establishing an IT industry with a proposal to employ 10,000 hands, was awarded "The Young Entrepreneur award".
Dr Edward Nazareth who could not be present to receive the honour
Dr Edward Nazareth, well-known orthopaedic surgeon of Fr Muller's Hospital, Mangalore, was awarded "Professional Excellence Award". However, Dr Nazareth could not attend the function owing to unforeseen engagement.
Winnifred Fernandes advised the gathering to involve in selfless social service, citing her own example of achievements. She also advised them to take advantage of the benefits offered by the government through the minority cell. She expressed her willingness to offer her services for the betterment of the community.
Sindhia praised the FKCA for recognizing the services of the three gentlemen and said that the Catholic community had many more who have served the nation in a similar way. He also praised the selfless services rendered by the Catholics in the fields of education, health and welfare and acknowledged their contribution for the development of the nation. He said though he would not be part of the forthcoming ministry, he will strive for the cause of Christians.
The programme began with a holy Mass in Konkani, with Frs V.J.Menezes and Victor Dias as celebrants. Ashwin performed the welcome dance. Cultural programme and a game of housie provided entertainment to one and all. Stalls with Konkan food made an added attraction.
