New Delhi, Aug 2 (IANS): The BJP Friday pledged to provide houses to the capital's 40 lakh slum dwellers if it wins the Delhi assembly elections in November.
Accusing the Congress of betraying the slum dwellers, Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) Delhi unit president Vijay Goel said "each and every slum dweller" would be given a house in the event his party wins.
The BJP will organise a rally for slum dwellers here Sunday, he said.
"There are 685 slum clusters in Delhi which have over 40 lakh inhabitants. They have been cheated for the last 15 years by the Congress government," Goel said.
"The houses will be made through public-private partnership model," he added.
Goel said that Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit had made a habit of making false promises before elections and then forgetting about them.
"The CM had announced building 60,000 low cost flats but managed to build only 14,000 and none of these have been allotted so far," he said.
The BJP leader also promised electricity, water and cooking gas at affordable rates to the slum dwellers.
"A single-point connection of electricity will be provided to the residents of these colonies. They will get water supply, proper sewage system and even police booths will be set up in these areas to keep a check on crime," said Goel.
According to the leader, the Congress government has not issued any ration cards in the least eight years.
