Chandigarh, Aug 2 (IANS): The Haryana government Friday announced that it will soon set up a school to educate and guide teachers, calling it the first such in the country.
"The Haryana government has decided to set up Prarambh, the country's first of its kind school for teacher education which will initially prepare and subsequently guide teachers for their continuing professional development," a state government spokesman said here.
A four-year integrated Bachelor of Education programme will be offered at the Prarambh School of Teacher Education, to have its dedicated 10-acre campus in Jhajjar, 50 km from Gurgaon, adjoining the national capital.
The programme will cover the academic content from degree to post-graduation level, including teaching in live classrooms.
"It will be a residential programme on the lines of the other top-notch undergraduate programmes, including engineering and medicine courses in the best of institutions in the country," the spokesman said.
"The initiative rests on the basic premise that education of the student should start with the education of the teacher, who sees, plans, prepares and delivers what ultimately raises the level of the learner.
"Getting guided by this concept, the state government has decided to set up Prarambh which is a giant step towards fulfilment of the vision of the education department to bring best quality teachers to the 47 lakh-odd students in the state," he said.
The school for teachers will be an autonomous institution having collaboration with national and international agencies of repute.
