Bangalore, Jan 28: In a major political breakthrough, Karnataka Governor, T N Chaturvedi has invited Kumaraswamy, three of his MLAs and Yediyurappa and three BJP MLAs to form the government in the state.

Kumaraswamy will have to prove his majority within eight days of taking the oath.

Governor said he will speak to Kumaraswamy about his convinience to fix a date for the swearing in. But it will be at the earliest.

On Friday, the Speaker of the Karnataka Assembly had recognised Kumaraswamy as the new leader of the JD(S) legislative party.

After Dharam Singh failed to take the trust vote on Friday as per the Governor's deadline and put in his papers on Saturday afternoon, all eyes were on the Governor to make the next move.

The Congress had earlier stated that the if Kumaraswamy was not invited by the Governor by Saturday to form a government, then they would appeal for a fresh date to prove their majority in the state.

However, it seems that after Dharam Singh's resignation, the Governor has made up his mind and has invited Kumaraswamy to discuss government formation in the state.

The Governor had earlier spoken to the Chief Justice of Karnataka High Court, Cyriac Joseph, on the legal aspect of the political crisis. He had also held a two-hour midnight meeting with JD(S) and BJP MLAs at the Raj Bhavan on Friday.

In a show of strength, 140 MLAs were paraded before the Governor. The MLAs have asked Chaturvedi to invite Kumaraswamy to form the government in the state.

On Saturday morning, Dharam Singh resigned as Chief Minister sensing that there was no real chance of the Congress party clinging to power.

"BJP is ready to do anything for power, we have seen it in the Assembly on Friday and the Speaker's decision was unfortunate," he said adding that the BJP's communal agenda will not help the coalition to continue in power.

The political crisis in the state had taken a dramatic turn on Friday when former prime minister H D Deve Gowda resigned as the National President of the JD(S).
