New Delhi, Aug 1 (DHNS): A 23 year-old student of the prestigious Jawaharlal Nehru University axed his woman classmate, with whom he was having an affair, multiple times and later drank poison and slashed his neck on Wednesday. The woman has been ignoring him of late.
He succumbed to injuries in hospital, while the girl is struggling for her life.
The incident happened at 11 am, and the deceased has been identified as Akash Kumar, who hails from Gaya in Bihar, and 20-year-old girl as Roshni Kumari Gupta, native of Bihar’s Muzaffarpur. Both of them were third year students of Korean in JNU’s school of language. While Akash Kumar was staying in Jhelum Hostel, Roshni was putting up in Shipra Hostel.
On Wednesday morning, after the class bell rang for the second lecture, Akash Kumar carrying a bag in his back walked from the back seats and went towards Roshni and asked her to come out. She refused and said, “I am not going anywhere,” said a police officer quoting eyewitness.
There were around five students at the time in the classroom.
When Roshni declined, furious Akash opened his bag reportedly took out country-made pistol and fired at her. But the pistol did not fire. Then he took out an axe and screamed at other classmate not to interfere. He hit her multiple times in her head and near her neck. Thereafter he took out a bottle of sulphas (poison) and thereafter took out a kitchen knife and slashed his throat.
Both were in a pool of blood before any student can intervene and stop him. “We received a call and rushed to the spot and took both the victims to nearby hospitals,” said a police officer.
While Akash was admitted to All India Institute of Medical Sciences Trauma Centre where he succumbed to his injuries, Roshni was admitted in Safdarjung Hospital where she is battling for life.
According to doctors at Safdarjung Hospital, she has received numerous injuries to her scalp.
She is undergoing radiological check-ups in the neurosurgery department of the hospital and her condition is slowly stabilizing.
“Akash entered into the class well prepared for the attack and he had planned it before hand. He was armed with a pistol, an axe, a knife and a bottle containing poison,” deputy commissioner of police (south) B S Jaiswal, adding that they have found four-page note from Akash’s bag.
The police said that some days ago the boy wrote to the girl’s father, saying he wanted to marry her.
When the father inquired the matter with his daughter, she denied having any such issues.
After this the boy started behaving aggressively with her, police said.
