Kundapur, Jan 27: These thieves have used their brains to the most.  They have reasoned logically and then proceeded meticulously in inflicting poverty on gods by depriving them of gold ornaments at Shri Pattabhi Ramchandra Temple at Koteshwar near here on Friday January 27.  After all why do gods want ornaments and wealth? 

The theft at Shri Pattabhi Ramchandra Temple however has left much behind to ponder over the efficiency of security.  The temple is situated in the heart of the town and has a watchman (if the temples too have watchmen, then where is the difference between commercial institutions and temples?).  But he came to know about the theft only in the morning on Friday when he got up from his sleep.

The valuable ornaments such as crown, paduke (footwear) etc that were on the idols of Shri Ram, Sita and Hanumanta have been stolen.  Along with that some silver ornaments such as chains, a gold conch worth Rs 60,000 too have been stolen.  However, a valuables festive idol of Sri Ram, which costs in lacs, has not been stolen.

It is suspected that the theief/ves might have entered the temple during the final puja in the night and then stolen the ornaments and gone by removing the tiles of the roof.

The managing trustee of the Shri Pattabhi Ramchandra Temple K Sridhar Kamat has filed a complaint with the Kundapur police in this regard.
