Mumbai, Jul 29: Yaksha Sandesha and three-day Yakshagana show that was organized by metro based Karnataka Sangh was inaugurated at Dr M Vishveshwarayya auditorium, Matunga (West) here on Saturday July 27.
Yakshagana Guru Bannanje Sanjeev Survarna and professor M L Samaga inaugurated the programme here on Saturday evening.
Speaking on the occasion, Professor M L Samaga said that there is no dearth of Yakshagana patrons in the metro, as the natives of undivided Dakshina Kannada who are settled in metro are ambassadors of Yakshagana that is the heroic art of coastal district. He also expressed his concern over deviating from original forms in modern Yakshagna.
He further said that the artistes have no financial security as their sustenance depend on viewership. He stressed on the need to give professional touch to Yakshagana to grow as a industry that would in turn bring security to artistes.
Karnataka Sangh president Prakash G Burde presided the programme. Manohar Tonse Abu Dhabi, B G Nayak, Dr Vyasaraya Ninjoor, G T Acharya and others were present at the dais. The Sangh vice president Dr Bharat Kumar Polipu welcomed the gathering. The honorary secretary Omdas Kannangar proposed the vote of thanks.
The first Yakshagana play on the mythological episode of Sharasetu Bhanga that was sponsored by Godrej Properties was staged after the formal programme.
