Rome, Jul 29 (IANS): At least 25 people were killed and 11 injured in a coach accident that occurred Sunday evening in Italy, local media reported.
The accident happened at around 08.30 p.m. (1830 GMT) near Avellino town in Campania region, when a bus carrying 48 tourists crashed through the guard rail and fell nearly 30 metres down the hill, Xinhua reported.
The bus swerved to avoid hitting a truck and then invested some cars before violently impacting the guard rail.
At least 25 of the trapped passengers were killed, including some children, while 11 suffered injuries, a few of the serious injuries, and were being treated at a local hospital.
"The victims presently ascertained are 25 but there may be several more," a police official Giuseppe Salomone, was quoted as saying by state television Rai.
He said the reason for the fatal accident was still unclear, and investigations into the cause were still underway.
