Naval officer's wife held for forgery

New Delhi, July 27 (IANS): The estranged wife of an Indian Navy officer was arrested here Saturday for submitting forged documents to a bank for getting a credit card, police said.

Sujata Sahoo, 25, wife of Lieutenant Ravi Kiran, was arrested from her house in Vasant Vihar in south Delhi for submitting a forged document in the State Bank of India branch in the Indian Institute of Technology, police said.

Sahoo has been booked under various penal sections including cheating and forgery and under the Emblems and Names (Prevention of Improper Use) Act.

"The arrest took place on the basis of a complaint lodged by the bank. Video footage has also been given to us in which Sahoo is seen submitting the papers to the bank," a police officer told IANS.

Sahoo had earlier alleged that she was molested by three naval officers in her husband's presence.

In April, the Indian Navy gave a clean chit to the three officers.

Sahoo's counsel Kamini Jaiswal denied the forgery charges said it was an attempt to malign her client. She also accused the police of torturing Sahoo.
