Kolkata, July 27 (IANS): Hitting out at the new JMM-Congress Jharkhand government for releasing 1.75 lakh cusec dam water which threatens to submerge several areas in West Bengal's Midnapore, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee Saturday said her government would not "spare" the neighbouring regime if there were losses due to inundation.
Banerjee said many areas in Sankrail and Keshiary could go under the water following the discharge, which was done "without consulting West Bengal".
The chief minister told the state assembly that the water was released in the early hours Saturday, and her government was informed only three hours later at 6 a.m.
Addressing a special session of the House, Banerjee said her government will lodge an official protest with the Jharkhand government.
"I condemn what they have done. We will not spare them if there is any loss in our state due to this act."
Targeting the Congress, the chief minister said: "Their attitude is always different when a state has a government other than the Congress, which is unacceptable".
