Karkala, Jul 27: As per the demands made by the students of Karnataka Women’s Polytechnic College to remove the college principal D Vasudev for his inefficiency and maladministration, the principal has been suspended until further orders, said former MLA H Gopal Bhandary.
The students had complained that the principal showed no interest in providing basic facilities in the college, of creating problems during revaluation and when asked for transfer certificate, delay in issuing scholarship, and mental torture to students. Hence, they sent an appeal to the education department calling for his suspension.
As per the order passed by higher education minister R V Deshpande, the education department has taken action against the principal.
It is said that despite students discussing their problems with the principal several times, they did not get a positive response. Hence the progress of the college came to a halt. "The principal always turned a deaf ear to the demands of the students and elected representatives. Considering all this, the decision taken by the department to suspend him is right," said Gopal Bhandary.
Demand to appoint new principal
Students of the polytechnic college have been facing problems ever since its inception five years ago. There have been several complaints against D Vasudev especially over not giving required documents on time, students said.
The locals too want government to take strict action against the principal. The students in their appeal have urged appointement of a new principal.
A complaint has also been filed with the Lokayukta, it is learnt.
