Bantwal: 23-year-old Kaushik Shetty dies in bike-lorry accident

Bantwal, Jul 26: A youngster lost his life when a lorry rammed into his bike on national highway at Ramalkatte here on Friday July 26.
The deceased is Kaushik Shetty (23), son of Devadas Shetty, member of Bantwal town municipal council (TMC).
Kaushik was riding towards Mangalore with his friend Sanjith Bhandary (23), son of Umesh Bhandary, when a lorry moving towards Bantwal hit his bike. He was rushed to Father Muller hospital at Thumbay where he was pronounced brought dead.
Sanjith who was riding pillion sustained serious injuries. He has been admitted to hospital in Kankanady, Mangalore. His condition is said to be critical.
Kaushik was running Sriram Nandini milk parlour near Bantwal bypass and used to also take contracts for minor works. It is said that he even possessed a contractor's licence.
On the day of the accident, he was going to Mangalore on work with his childhood friend and neighbour Sanjith.
He was the elder among Devadas Shetty's two sons. The younger son is pursuing his PU studies in Alva's College, Moodbidri.
Devadas Shetty, a member of BJP, was instrumental in the formation of the party's district unit and served as its principal secretary.
Kaushik's body was handed over to the family after post-mortem. Hundreds of well-wishers, friends, relatives and party leaders and supporters visited Devadas Shetty's residence near Bantwal bypass to pay their last respects.
Bantwal police have registered a case.
