Mangalore, Jan 25: The police have arrested 6 persons in connection with the ransacking of one Alwyn Maben's house at Kattinja near Neermarga here on Tuesday January 24 afternoon.
The arrested have been identified as Kishor, Jeevanraj, Kumar, Yogish, Jeevan and Prakash. However, the prime accused Umesh and several others have still been absconding.
As reported earlier in these columns, a few activists belonging to a particular fundamentalist organization had stormed into Alwyn Maben's house and ransacked the entire house. During this, several valuable things in the house have been damaged. The total loss has been estimated at Rs 1 lac.
Alwyn is a resident of Neermarga, but has built a house in Kattinja. He is a government employee. He has married one Prabha Poojary of Baiturli. The couple had earlier been accused of conversion. However, the police had warned them a year ago after which they had shifted their prayer sessions to a house at Daddaskad near Konaje. But of recent there were reports that they had once again shifted their activities back to their house at Kattinja, which enraged these fundamentalists.
But most of the people have other say in this regard. The locals said that the prime accused Umesh had been teasing a Christian girl of the vicinity. This case had gone to the police station at the behest of Alwyn, which had enraged Umesh. Eversince, Umesh waited for any opportunity to trap Alwyn, which he did on Tuesday after along with few of his friends.
