Mangalore, Jan 25: This indeed is the victory of the people.  This victory has once again proved that being united for a just cause will always serve the purpose.  The long awaited but duly neglected railway under bridge near Kankanady Railway Station got the approval of the Southern Railway general manager.

The residents of Bajal and Padil area had intensified their protest for the construction of under bridge in the last few days.  After a sudden ‘Rail Roko’, the residents had organized a huge protest meet at the venue and had blocked the railway route for sometime.

The complaint has been in the air for long.  Since the present route crosses through the Bajal - Padil road, the vehicles on either side of the gate have to wait for long whenever a train arrives.  The gate is closed about 30 times in a day. Since many trains pass on the route, the passengers travelling by bus or any other vehicle have been facing immense problems.  The students, besides officer-goers, face the problem as many times road is blocked in the morning hours delaying their going to the office.

The decision to construct an underbridge was taken at the Southern Railway ZRUCC (Zonal Railway Users Coordination Committee)  meeting at Chennai on Tuesday January 24.  MP D V Sadananda was present at the meeting.  It was only after the MP promised the Railway Department that half of the entire cost for the construction of the under bridge will be paid by Mangalore City Corporation and state infrastructure department, that the railway authorities gave permission in principle for the construction of the underbridge.
