DU has vacant seats, releases eighth cut-off list


New Delhi, Jul 23 (IANS): With the academic session for Delhi University's four-year undergraduate programme starting Tuesday, the varsity has declared its eighth cut-off list even for general candidates.

"The eighth cut-off list has been released as the university has been notified that a sizeable number of seats for the reserved category are still lying vacant and more seats are likely to be made available for general candidates," said registrar Alka Sharma.

"However, admissions done by colleges after July 31 will not be accepted," she added.

Like the seventh cut-off list, the same 16 colleges are waiting for their commerce seats to be filled up in the general category. Hindu, Kirori Mal and Moti Lal Nehru College are among the 16 with vacant seats.

In economics, one of the most sought-after courses at, 11 colleges still have seats.

Delhi College of Arts and Commerce is again taking admissions for economics in the eighth list after it was declared closed in the fifth list. However, the cut-off is still as high as 92 percent.

Not only commerce and economics but English, history, philosophy, sociology and Sanskrit courses also have vacancies.

Colleges like Gargi, Indraprastha College for Women, Kamla Nehru College and Hindu are among the ones with vacant seats for these courses.

The Bhaskaracharya College of Applied Sciences that had placed a record cut-off of 99 percent for bachelors of technology in computer science in the first list is also waiting for aspirants to fill up the seats.

Barring zoology and mathematics in Hansraj College and Kirori Mal, seats for science subjects are almost occupied.

The university has introduced the four-year undergraduate programme this academic session. Under this programme, students will be required to study 11 foundation courses in the first two years with the main subjects under disciplines I and II, and applied courses.
