Panaji, Jul 23 (IANS): Goa University has installed CCTVs in order to keep ragging out of its campus, vice chancellor Satish Shetye said at a meeting of the state's anti-ragging cell Monday.

Shetye said various measures have been undertaken by the university to curb the menace of ragging. Wardens have been appointed at girls' hostels, CCTV cameras have been installed at "prime locations", and an awareness drive was on, the vice chancellor said.

Goa Governor Bharat Vir Wanchoo, who as chancellor of Goa University heads the anti-ragging cell, said: "All educational institutions should remain alert and careful to avoid the occurrence of ragging."

He said laws and mechanisms in existence should be meticulously and carefully implemented.

"While ragging may not be a problem in educational institutions in Goa, we have in the past come across incidents of crime against our students," the governor said.

Six students of the state-run Goa Medical College were evicted from the institute's hostel for ragging in 2010.
