Margao, Jul 22: The prestigious Fr Freddy J Da Costa Memorial Gulab award 2013 was conferred on Manohar Parrikar, chief Minister of Goa at Ravindra Bhavan, Margao on July 20.
These awards were instituted by Late Fr Freddy J Da Costa in the name of his Konkani monthly-Gulab were conferred on the personalities from the fields of literature, social work, tiatr and sports.
Luizinho Faleiro, general secretary AICC and member ,Congress Working Committee was the chief guest while Dr V N Jindal, Dean, Goa Medical College, Bambolim was the guest of honour. Fausto V Da Costa, editor, Gulab welcomed the gathering.
Fausto V Da Costa, in his welcome speech brought to the notice of the Konkani lovers the real situation of the Konkani magazine. “We cannot work for the Konkani depending on the funds of the government, but we need to work for the cause of Konkani with love.” he opined further.
Speaking on the occasion, Faleiro recalled the contribution made by Late Fr Freddy J Da Costa to the Konkani language and culture. He appealed to the goans at large to preserve the language and the culture for the future generation. Dr Jindal, delivering his speech appreciated the contribution of Late Fr Freddy to the humanity at large.
The following were the awards =conferred: GULAB’s Man of the year2013—Manohar Parrikar,Chief Minister of Goa, Best Writer of Gulab- Marcus Gonsalves, Best Sportsperson 2013- Lenny Rodrigues, TIATR-2013-- Best Musician-Anthony de Velim, Best Writer—Comedian Agustinho,Best Director-Fr Nevel Gracias, Best Singer (female)—Sonia Sirsat,Best Singer(Male)—Marcus Vaz,Best Actor-Ulhas Tari, Best Actress- Jessica Vaz , Best Comedian (Male)—Luis Bachan, Best Comedian (Female)--Janet.
Fabian Da Costa proposed the vote of thanks.
A variety entertainment programme consisting of a comedy, skit based on the life of Fr Freddy written and directed by comedian Agustinho and songs were presented by the various artists like comedian Agustinho, comedian Selvy, Jessica Vaz, Sabina, Jaju, Sylvester Vaz, Francis de Tuem, comedian Janet, comedian Ambe and Lawry Travasso.
