Trinamool lawmaker in hospital after bomb attack

Kolkata, Jul 21 (IANS): A Trinamool Congress legislator in West Bengal Saturday claimed that he was hospitalised after bombs were hurled at his vehicle. Police are inquiring into the incident after the lawmaker's complaint.

Lawmaker Gulshan Mallick alleged the mob attack by supporters of rival parties took place in Gabberia village of Panchla constituency in Howrah district.

He said in his complaint that he was also fired upon by miscreants affiliated to the "Congress and the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M)".

"They tried to murder me. My security guard rescued me by firing four rounds in the air to disperse the mob," he said.

An officer at the Panchla Police Station said a case has been started on the basis of Mallick's complaint.

Both the Congress and the CPI-M denied involvement of their workers in the alleged attack.

Meanwhile, the State Election Commission has ordered re-polling in 11 booths of North 24 Parganas district, due to electoral malpractices Friday.
