20 Goa students hospitalised after eating mid-day meal

Panaji, Jul 19 (IANS): Twenty primary students from a school in Ponda were Friday rushed to hospital after they complained of stomach pain and vomiting after eating a mid-day meal.

An education department official said the students were eating a meal comprising vegetable and lentil curry at the St. Joseph High School in Usgao in Ponda sub-district, 30 km from here.

"They have been immediately shifted to the Ponda ID (Infectious Diseases) hospital for treatment. It appears to be a case of food poisoning," the official said.

The incident comes barely days after 23 school children in Bihar's Saran district died after eating contaminated food.

On June 27, at least 23 school students similarly fell ill after eating a mid-day meal at Canacona, 70 km south of here.

Where ever the midday food is served in schools to children, it should be made mandatory for the H\M, teachers and the cooks to consume same before serving to children.
Then all these problems will be solved. All will take care to get good food items\oil, clean place for cooking and storage...
Everyone trying to pocket as much as possible, by buying out-dated food items or cheap adulterated items.
Those responsible should be taken to task and not just let them go.

Malala Please note - In your Pakistan and Nigeria fundamentalists directly shoot the children, but in India they feed Poison.

Very surprising, food poisoning has become everyday affair!
    Hope it is not sabotage!
For negligence can be taken care by strict vigil!
Very sad, our future generation's lives are not safe in the hands of their own guardians!
How are we to be sure of our borders?

“On June 27, at least 23 school students similarly fell ill after eating a mid-day meal at Canacona”. Was there a proper investigation and remedial action to avoid recurrence? Probably NO. This is spreading like a virus. In this week we heard 27 children died after consuming midday meal (organo-phosphate poison) at Chapra, Bihar 50 students fell ill after eating midday meal (dead lizard) at Madhubani, Bihar 34 children at an adivashi ashram school had diarrhoea and vomiting after drinking contaminated water near Dhule in Maharashtra 143 girl students fell ill after consuming eggs served in their meal at Neyveli in Tamil Nadu 8 students of Sarvodaya Kanya Mahavidyalaya are in hospital after taking iron tablets given by school at New Delhi 49 students of a private school near Solapur fell il after consuming iron tablets distributed by their school near Solapur, Maharashtra Insects were found in food during inspection in a govt school in Amritsar, Punjab. It is happening everywhere. Food adultrators, profiteers want to fill their coffers even at the expense of poor, innocent children’s lives.

Food poisoning in schools on consuming the mid day meal has bsecome the order of the day from Bihar,Tamilnadu and now in Goa.This is really one of the best schemes of the government to the deserving poor school children.Bitter, we utilise the services of NGO's in this work including nuns who are really works good for the social causes.Immediate changes and attention is required before the situation go out of control.Hope for the best.Thanq.
