Kasargod: Unidentified men open fire at PWD contractor's house

Kasargod, Jul 18: Unidentified men fired gunshots at PWD contractor's house at Bevinje here on Thursday July 18. The incident occured at around 5.15 am.
The house belongs to Bevinje PWD contractor M T Mohammed Kunhi Haji.
The men who came on a bike fired two rounds of bullets and fled from the spot, it is said.
At the time of the incident, Mohammed Kunhi and his son Arafat had been to the mosque for morning prayers.
Kunhi's wife and mother-in-law were at home.
One bullet smashed the window pane in the sitout area and hit the wall. No one was hurt.
Hearing the shots and the sound of the breaking glass, the women screamed. The miscreants who heard them shout immediately fled.
An eyewitness said that the culprits escaped through an inner road leading towards Cherkala.
A team led by district police chief Thomson Jose is gathering more information. The special crime branch team has taken up the investigation. Forensic experts also inpected the spot.
This is not the first time that the PWD contractor's house has been attacked. On June 25, 2010, miscreants had fired several rounds of bullets on the house and fled. Police had learnt that the underworld operating in Mangalore had a hand in it.
