Mangalore: Basadi thefts - Arrested persons brought to city, sent to judicial custody

Mangalore, Jul 17: The two persons arrested in Bhubaneswar, Odisha in connection to the Moodbidri Jain Temple theft case, were brought to the city on Wednesday July 17.
The accused are Diptimayee Mohanty, wife of Santosh Das, the prime accused in the theft case, and Digambar Mohanty, his father-in-law.
They were produced in court and remanded in judicial custody till July 30.
The two were arrested on charges of abetment, as they had refused to divulge the whereabouts of Santoosh.
Digambar is a class IV employee attached to the urban development department of the government of Odisha.
During the police raid in Bhubaneswar, they had found 1 kg of gold from Santosh's locker. The Mangalore police, with the help of Bhubaneswar police had also recovered idols stolen from Moodbidri Basadi.
The theft of idols at Moodbidri Basadi came to light on July 6. At least 15 idols were reported to be stolen.
