Bangalore: Aida D'Cunha elected FKCA chairperson for second term

Bangalore, Jul 16: Aida D’Cunha was re-elected as the chairperson of the Federation of Konkani Catholic Associations (FKCA), Bangalore, for the second term on Sunday July 14.
The FKCA, which was established as the apex boy of all Konkani Catholic Associations to espouse the cause the Konkani Catholics and fight for safeguarding the interests of the community, their language and culture, has grown to be a big organization with as many 28 associations, including those from several foreign countries affiliated to it.
D’Cunha said she was proud to lead the FKCA with the active and wholehearted cooperation and support of her team of office-bearers, including past chairmen and several prominent members as well as presidents and office-bearers of the different affiliated associations.
The fight for the use of Konkani as a language of worship in liturgy, opposing the attacks on churches and other places of worship of Catholics and Christians in different parts of Karnataka and other minorities besides urging the State Government to withdraw the cases foisted against innoncent youth as also the Centre’s move to establish the proposed Central University for minorities at Srirangapatna near Mysore in the name of Tippu Sultan were some of the major activities that the FKCA had engaged itself wholeheartedly, she said.
D’Cunha said the FKCA had taken the initiative to arrange allotment of low budget houses and sites not only to the Konkani Community but also other communities besides conducting medical and blood donation camps and other social service activities.
She expressed special thanks and offered bouquets to Valerian Fernandes, Charles Gomes, Gabriel Vaz, Eddward D’Souza, Sunil Rego, Robert Cutinha, Navin D’Souza, Romel Jeevan and many other persons. The elections for the year 2013-14 were conducted by Fr William Miranda, who is also the spiritual director of FKCA.
