Mangalore: Jawa-Yezdi vintage motorcycle rally adorns city roads

Mangalore, Jul 14: Every year, second Sunday of July is celebrated as International Jawa Day across the globe. A rally of these heavy-metal, vintage Jawa motor bikes was organized by the Mangalore Jawa-Yezdi Motorcycle Club to commemorate the 11th International Jawa Day at Kadri here on Sunday July 14.
The rally was flagged off from City Gate complex, Kadri. As many as 25 Jawa and Yezdi bikes participated in the rally that passed through various parts of the city.
The International Jawa Day is celebrated worldwide and the club has been organizing the rally in Mangalore since 2007. While only three enthusiasts participated in the rally in the first year, the number increased to 15 the next year.
Jawa Classic, Roadking and Yezdi were part of the rally. The rally that commenced in Kadri ended there too, passing through Nanthur, Circuit House, Bejai, Lalbagh, PVS, Navabharath circle, KS Rao Road, Hampankatta, Falnir, Kankanady, Bendorewell and Lower Bendore.
"Mangalore youth have always attached a sense of prestige to riding these vintage bikes. Participants and owners of the bikes remain loyal to the Yezdi slogan ‘The Forever Bike, Forever Value’," said a participant speaking to Daijiworld.
Jawa is a motorcycle manufacturing firm based in the Czech Republic. Yezdi that was released in India almost five decades ago still has fans all over the country.
