Mangalore: Students battle for glory on slush field at rural sports event

Mangalore, Jul 14: The two-day Tulunada Krishi Janapadotsava programme kicked off at Pavanje Shri Jnana Shakthi Subramanya Swamy temple field, Bakimar on Saturday July 13.
Agriculturalist Kutti K Poojary Kaikode inaugurated the programme. K S Nithyanada of Chikmagalur Veda Vignana Centre blessed the occasion.
Businessman Raghunatha Somayaji, Ravindra Poojary Adve, administrator of Shri Narayana Guru Educational Institution, Vardhaman Guruprasad Shetty, Gollidaddi Guthu, Tulunadu slush sports meet committee working president P P Hegde, president Pramod Kumar, vice-president Chandrashekar Sanil, chief secretary Ramachandra Shenoy, organizing secretary Vinod K Salian were present.
"The sports organized in slush fields should be a lesson for youth on agriculture; if the youth are inspired to take up agriculture in this way, it may not become extinct in future," said Y N Salian, principal of Nitte Mulky Ramakrishna Punja Industrial Training Institute, Tapovana, Thokkur.
Various sports like slush field race, reverse race, composition writing, treasure hunt and other games were organized.
More than 3,000 students from various school and colleges took part in the event.
Balakrishna Shetty, principal of Kateel College, K R Shankar of Mulky Vijaya College, Prof Vishwanath Bhat of Haleangady Government College, Chandrika Bhandary, headmistress of Kilwadi Vyasa Maharishi, Revathi of Mulky UBMC, Pushpavathi of Niddodi Durgadevi School were also present, along with Pramod Kumar, Ramanchandra Shenoy, Vinod Salian, Chandrashekar Sanil, Vinod Kumar, Himakara Kedeke, Ramdas, Praveen, Sudhakar Amin, Somashekar Shetty, Sanath Kumar, Sunil Haleangady.
During the valedictory programme, minister Abhayachandra Jain and Kadambodi Mahabala Poojary, district Rajyotsava award winner will be felicitated. Ikala Harish Shetty will be presiding over the programme.
