Kasargod, Jul 14: Five persons, including the prime accused, have been arrested so far in connection with the murder of T A Saabith (19), a resident Meepuguri. The arrests were made by a police team led by circle inspector C K Sunil Kumar.
The arrested are prime accused K Akshay (21) of Anangoor JP Colony, K N Vaishak (19) of Kalliangad, R Bijesh (20) of JP Colony, K Sachin Kumar (19) and a 17-year-old juvenile. It is said that while Akshay and Vaishak were directly involved in the crime, the other three had helped.
Two large knives used in the crime were recovered from an isolated spot at Nelkala on Saturday July 13 morning.
It is said that while Saabith and his friend Ahmed Rayees (20) were passing through JP Colony on the day of the murder, Akshay and Vishak were on a scooter behind them. In spite of honking, Saabith did not give space for their scooter to pass. This is said to angered Vishak and Akshay, and they reportedly waited for the duo to pass by the same area on their return.
When the two boys were on their way back, Akshay and Vishak who were lying in wait allegedly attacked them. Akshay stabbed Saabith on the lower part of his chest and fled the scene. He dumped the scooter among the bushes at a ground nearby.
As soon as the news of Saabith's death in hospital came a few hours later, Akshay and Vaishak told the other three accused to go into hiding. Akshay's mobile phone was with one of the three.
At the same time, Askhay and Vaishak took an inner road at Parakatte leading to Kudlu, from where they escaped in a private vehicle to Kanhangad. They wandered around in various places before surrendering to the police, it is said.
