K S Chess Association press release

Mangalore, Jan 21: The State-level Open Rapid Chess Tournament will begin on Saturday in the Officers' Club, NMPT, Mangalore. More than hundred Players across the State will be participating in this prestigious event.

The event will be inaugurated by MRPL associate vice president Laxminarayana. NMPT FA & CAO Anantha and Matha Overseas Private Limited AVP Nagaraj Gubba will grace the occasion, while Karnataka State Chess Association president Sambasiva Rao will preside over the function.

The Tournament will comprise of Open and Under -2 Category. The event caries cash prizes totalling Rs.15,000 and they have been sponsored by Matha Overseas Pvt Ltd.

In the Open field, Vikram Saralaya (Udupi), Naveen Hegde (Sirsi), Raghavendra (Bangalore) and Prakash V Rao (Mangalore} are some of the prominent players vying for the title.

Under 12 also equally would attract the chess-lovers, as many Asian and National Level players viz. Gahan M G(Mangalore), Kedar Vaze (Shimoga), Shalon Pais (Mangalore), Satvik M (Bangalore), Shabdik Verma (Ujire), Andrea D'Souza (Mangallore) and many others will be participating.

The Tournament will be conducted in 9 Round Swiss League System. On Saturday, four rounds will be played.
