Bantwal, Jul 12: Contributing further to the uneasy environment already prevailing in the government first grade college at Vittal, the police were summoned there again on Thursday July 11 after friction arose between the principal of the college and the students on a frivolous issue.
It is learnt that some first year BCom degree course students of the college, through a letter addressed to the principal, asked him to equally distribute students belonging to a particular religion to both the sections of the degree course.
They said that students from a specific religion were facing problems, as students from a another religion far outnumbered them in section B.
The students requested the principal to re-distribute the students between these two sections, without allotting classes based on religious affiliation, equally. This gave rise to verbal frictions between the principal and a section of the students.
The principal thereafter called the police, who came on the scene and talked to the concerned. They asked the principal and students to reach a compromise in the issue before Friday, failing which all the 20 signatories to the letter were directed to come to the police station.
