Puttur, Jan 21: Senior children’s litterateur Bendarawadi Subrahmanya Sharma has been chosen to president over the second Children's Literary Conference (CLC) to be held at DK Zilla Panchayat Higher Primary School, Kemmayi, Krishnanagar on Saturday.

Bendarawadi was born at Bendarawadi Agrahara of Chamarajanagar district in the year 1934. He was the disciple of singer P Kalinga Rao and adopted singing as his profession. He adopted the lyrics of famous Kannada poets in his songs. He visited every school in the state and gave 15001 performances.

He inked his experiences for children and enriched Kannada literature world by children's literature. He has written 18 books including Pepparamentu, Shale Deva Mandira, Vishwabharati, Kajjaya, Sakkare Bombe, Kannadi, six collections of songs and four radio plays. Thirteen of his song cassettes have been released including Chinnada Motte and Tirukana Kanasu.

He has been honoured with awards by many institutions for his works. Besides bagging the late Polali Balakrishna Shetty Literature Award, he has been felicitated by the Karnataka Sangha Dubai. He started his career as a hotel supplier and achieved fame as a litterateur. He made many experiments in literature and is happy with the returns he received.
