Manipal gang-rape: Accused Yogish sent to judicial custody till July 15

Udupi, Jul 11: Yogish, the prime accused in the Manipal gang-rape case who was discharged from hospital on Thursday July 11, was produced before th judge the same evening.
Principal civil judge Nagajyothi remanded Yogish in judicial custody till July 15. Like the other two accused in the case, he too will be shifted to Shimoga jail.
As Yogish has been just discharged from hospital, the police did not seek his custody on health grounds. Earlier in the day, he was taken for DNA test as per court order.
All the persons arrested in the case - Yogish, Hariprasad, Anand, Harindra and Balachandra, have been sent to judicial custody till July 15. Once the custody period ends, they will be together produced in court.
Harindra and Balachandra, brothers of Hariprasad and Yogish, who were arrested for destroying evidence, are lodged in Hiriadka jail.

Udupi, Jul 11: A fortnight after he attempted suicide, Yogish, prime accused in the Manipal gang-rape case, was on Thursday July 11 discharged from hospital.
Yogish was discharged early morning and formally arrested by Manipal police. He was later taken for DNA test as per the court order.
He is expected to be produced in court the same evening.
Yogish had attempted suicide on June 27 in a dramatic manner, after calling IGP (western range) Pratap Reddy on phone and confessing his crime. He had told the IGP that he would not allow the police to nab him and consumed poison. The police rushed to his rescue and got him admitted in hospital. He was in critical condition for the first few days.
A student of Manipal University hailing from Kerala was allegedly kidnapped and gang-raped by three men in an auto rickshaw on the night of June 20. After a week of intense search, the police nabbed Yogish, Hariprasad and Anand on June 27 in a dramatic turn of events, with Anand too attempting suicide. Anand and Hariprasad have been sent to Shimoga jail till July 15. Brothers of Yogish and Hariprasad too have been arrested for destroying evidence. The victim was discharged from hospital last week.
