Sunny morning in Delhi, rains expected

New Delhi, Jul 10 (IANS): It was a sunny morning in the capital Wednesday with the minimum temperature settling four notches below average at 22.8 degrees Celsius, a day after heavy rain lashed the city. The Met Office has forecast more rain towards the evening.

The city received a total of 70 mm of rainfall from 8:30 a.m. Tuesday to 8:30 a.m. Wednesday. Delhi has so far received 193 mm of rains this monsoon season.

"The sky will remain partly cloudy and light rains are expected in some parts of the city in the evening," an official of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.

The maximum temperature would hover around 36 degrees Celsius, added the official.

The sudden downpour in Delhi Tuesday evening led to flooding of roads and traffic jams, giving a tough time to commuters.

Key intersections like the ITO crossing - a major point connecting central and east Delhi, Ring Road and roads connecting Delhi to its satellite towns of Noida and Gurgaon witnessed jams.

Tuesday's maximum and minimum temperatures settled two notches below the season's average at 35.4 degrees Celsius and 25.8 degrees Celsius, respectively.
