Puttur: Failure to obey order - Man sets wife on fire, arrested

Puttur, Jul 9: In an incident which occurred at Kapinabagilu in Kaukrady village near Uppinangady in the taluk, a man allgedly poured kerosene on his wife and set her on fire for a trivial reason.

Roslyn (40), who suffered serious burn injuries in this incident, was admitted into a hospital in Mangalore. Her condition continues to be serious.

The incident occurred on Sunday July 7 morning. Roslyn’s husband, Bernard Monteiro, has been arrested by Uppinangady police.

Bernard had reportedly bought pork from butcher’s shop on Sunday morning. Immediately after reaching home, he insisted on preparation of dish by using pork. Monteiro got extremely angry after observing that his wife did not take the initiative to cook the pork at once as per his instructions.

In a complaint filed in Uppinangady police station, it has been explained that Bernard immediately rushed to the kitchen thereafter, poured kerosene stored in a plastic can there on his wife, and set her on fire.

    On a second thought- I eat pork only once a month because my Doctor said that I will become like a dukor if I eat it often.
    However, I find cooking pork is very simple and easy!
    Put all the ingredients in a pot,keep it on fire and then open the whiskey bottle.
    By the time I am almost sozzled, the Dukra maas is ready - with ready made sanna of course!
    I cannot understand the silly reason to burn ones own wife for this?

    For Christ's sake don't bring Christ into this !
    This honestly was one thing I could not come to terms with when I was young- Beautiful Girls eating "Dukraache Maas"!Khataa Go Thoon Dukraak 'Gaas'? I used to ask them sheepishly- Naa Naa Kaalyaak? Yethaagi Vaas? Some used to ask in return...while some indeed agreed that they ate it and it was very tasty!Great fun it was chiding them then!
    I remember a certain 'Terrifying Dolphy' who used to rear pigs near
    our house and they would invade the roads nearby in hundreds! Now you don't get to see them!'Pig robbers' are also lurking you see
    along with 'goat and cattle robbers'...Now streets are not safe even for pigs!!

    Sad news indeed!
    Setting own wife on fire for dukra maas!
    Almost all Christians in Mangalore like dukra maas & sanna on sundays!
    But setting his own wife on fire,Bernard will be eating kanji for a long time!No more dukra maas for a long time for him.

    Case will drag on for years. His lawyer will try his level best to defend him. For want of substantial evidence the accused will be acquitted not guilty. Loser is the poor wife. We have seen this happen in so many cases.

    @ Lydia, if one eats meat and takes liquor he or she will not be a normal but rude and arrogant like animal.Beef and Pork are the choices of carnivores and not human living in cold countries but not for our climate conditions.
    Eat green vegetables and live healthy.
