Mumbai: Abhijit Awsarmol, snake catcher scores century

Mumbai, Jul 8: 19 year old Abhijit Awsarmol, resident of P&T Colony, Vile Parle (East) has caught over 100 snakes including 20 Indian Cobras, 20 Monyar, 60 Rattle Snakes. Many of the 100 snakes he has caught are poisonous.

Abhijit has no formal training in catching snakes but learnt his trade in the premises of P&T Colony which is 27 acres of land filled with bushes and creepers.

“We have around 400 houses and lots of children playing in the vicinity. The snakes pose a danger in the vicinity and compound,” said Abhijit.

Abhijit caught the first Snake (Cobra) at the age of 16 and since then snake catching has become a hobby 'It is also a necessity' adds Abhijit.

Abhijit later releases the snakes at the National Park (Borivili) or Aarey Colony (Goregaon).
