Bantwal, Jul 8: A private bus that was moving towards Mangalore from Vittal heavily leaned to its left side after its tyres got stuck in roadside craters with soft mud near Kadumutt in Kolnad village in the taluk on Sunday July 7.
The bus was moving on Vittal-Mangalore route via Salethur and Konaje at the time of the incident.
When the bus was moving through Kadumutt, the driver of the bus saw that a Mahindra Bolero vehicle coming from the opposite direction at a steep road bend. When he tried to avoid hitting the vehicle by making way for it, the wheels of the bus got stuck in deep craters by the roadside. The bus dangerously leaned on to its right in the process.
But for the fact that a tree of the roadside plantation provided support to the bus after the vehicle leaned on it, the consequences would have been quite grave. Eyewitnesses said that the bus and the passengers would have rolled onto the plantation if the tree had not supported the bus.
As a result, traffic on Vittal-Salethur road suffered for some time. Station house officer of Vittal, Madhava Koodlu, and personnel visited the spot and took up measures for the resumption of traffic.
