Mangalore: Sheldon Crasta elected president of ICYM

Mangalore, Jul 7: Sheldon Crasta from Bendore here has been unanimously elected the new president of Indian Catholic Youth Movement (ICYM) central council, Mangalore diocese.

The election was held during the 66th annual meeting of ICYM at Rosario church hall here on Sunday July 7.

Addressing the gathering, MLA J R Lobo, who was the chief guest, wished good luck to the new team of ICYM and said that youngsters should come forward through such forums and get into the government sector and the political field.

Vicar general of Mangalore diocese Msgr Denis Moras Prabhu presided over the programme. Parish priest of Rosario church Fr J B Crasta and ICYM director Fr Ronald D'Souza were the guests of honour.

ICYM units that had rendered good service were felicitated on the occasion. Balkunje ICYM was adjudged the best unit while Moodbidri unit came second and Paladka third.

The newly-elected members of ICYM are:

President - Sheldon Crasta, Bendore
Vice-presidents - Joshua D'Souza, Agrar
                          Daphne Veigas, Manjeshwar
Secretary - Ashwini D'Souza, Puttur
Joint secretary - Merlin Fernandes, Neermarga
Treasurer - Joel Mascarenhas, Madantyar
Auditor - Rayan Rodrigues, Moodbidri
Past president - Nelson Monis, Ujire

    Congratulations to Mr. Crasta and the Bolkunje ICYM. I did not even dream that Bolkunje youth will one day be in the limelight. This village has remained just the same since my birth (1942 ) except for half hourly bus service. For the youth to achieve this the credit surely goes to the parish priest who is now in a mission station in Africa. Congrats once again.
