Udupi: Child worker rescued in raid by labour department

Udupi, Jul 6: A minor child around the age of 13 was rescued from his place of work which is situated close to the Manipal DC office on Saturday July 6 in the afternoon.

The district labour department  was notified about the child who was seen working at a milk booth. The child identified as Kumar Nagaraj from Shimoga left his school and studies due to poverty and a mother  who was sick.

Sources state that the milk booth is owned by Oswald D'souza.

Currently he will be sent to a special residential school for child labourers in Keddur Koteshwar.

The department stated that if the child is found to be below 13 years of age he wil be handed over to the residential school, if he is older he will be sent back to his parents.

It has been found that around 15-20 children have been found begging throughout the town. This children have come from outside the state.

Ravi Kumar R and Ramachandra S, labour inspectors; Prabhakar Acharya, anti child labour association director conducted the raid.

    u ppl r talking $#!t.... everywhere we find a child who is working/ begging.. instead helping them we shoo them away.. but helping them with sum rupeees is not a solution.. lets join hands together to help these needy angels.. if u guys r with me just reply to on jaysonpereira2011@yahoo.com will raise a fund for them or else let daijiworld take the initiative i will b the first one to fight for this cause

    what a fuss and Headlines?If you see around central maidan andwhereabouts how many children are begging even in Hotels small children are cleaning tables.is it not child labour? of course I am too against this.but sometimes reality in life is just otherway.In India in many places children are working because they cant afford to go to School or parents are drunken with their daily wages.it is not done by putting them in some Institute but pack it by the root,parents.findout whether they are bought or brought by some agents.

    Mr. Radhakrishna, I appreciate your comments we must not give money to child beggars but at the same time we should not show our hatred on them becos they themselves are victims of this horrible system of begging racket instead we have to give them food, clothes, shelter best to rehabilitate them and see that the begging racketers are defeated na rahengi baans na bajegi basuri. becos if we do not act now these same children if they survive they join ganglords and ultimately they target the common man only with their anti social activities since we have not rehabilitated them.

    Labour Dept are doing a good job,but at the same time who are going to take care of his sick mother ,the reason for the boy to work at his minor age is clearly mentioned, no one forced him,he himself with his own will without having a second option to take care of his sick mother he need to sacrifice his life,If you labour dept or the government are helping him and his family in his difficulties that is really appreciated.If not there is no use of stopping him not to work this will make his and his family life more difficult.

    @ simple why don't you find out the address of that child and mention it in the comments,If you can not do anything better,i am sure you can at least do that small favor.Its easy to comment when its comes to real you may be hiding somewhere in Bangalore.and even you will forget your address also.

    thanks for advising me to find address of boy/mother and help them if I can. We have lot of advisors in India, but, when it comes to their part, they look at other direction. If you could get their address, pls. inform me and will be very glad to help them.

    Begging has become a menance specially in coastal districts. Strictly dont give any money as judith said, this begging will stop. Its horrible to go out in Udupi in some places, these children smartly trying to touch with dirty hands if you dont give them any money. None of them are from our districts.

    I do not entirely agree with your comments.
    those "with 2-3 member families building huge mansions and "EMPLOYING" 600 staff -
    You can see 600 people get jobs by doing what they have done with their wealth.
    Here, the shop-keeper could have given some money to help the ailing mother of the boy but not employ him which is against the law.
    Please find out he address of the boy\mother and pls if u can, try and help them.

    Present Govt. should change the officials of this labour dept. who are continuing from the past Govt. period.
    They have become lethargic as the earlier Govt. was not bothered to take action against them.
    They still expect their chamchas to take action instead of them.
    Sack these people and replace them with new responsible workers of Congress.

    Jeevan, just to prove your politics pls. see that the children do not suffer besides child beggars I feel your organisation should also stop small girls from prostitution racket can your organisation do that, see that all poor people if not luxuries get atleast basic need s like food,clothing,shelter,basic education, so that their children do not have to labour on streets ???

    Mr. Jeevan, did the Milk Booth owner forcibly employed the boy ? Didn't he pay him his wages ? By employing this boy, didn't he, in one way helped his ailing mother ? Then why should he be punished ? I tell you, it is the people who are having surplus luxury and turn blind eye towards these unfortunate and down trodden should be punished. Look at the business tycoons who build the largest buildings for 2-3 members of their family and employ 600 people to look after them, but, contribute nothing for the poor. Why can't these people learn something from Mr. Billgate, Mr. Warren etc. instead of competing in Millionaire's list ?

    Mr. Leslie Fernandes, what is the mistake of Mr. Oswald ? He employed a child and paid him for his labor. Is it wrong ? Do you expect Mr. Oswald to adopt this child instead of employing him ? Is it possible for a petty shop owner to adopt a child ? At least he employed the boy and helped him to support his sick mother. Also, do you know how many groups will jump on Oswald with false accusations of conversion ?

    I UNABLE TO FIND OUT THE LABOUR INSPECTORS !! WHY THERE IS NO UNIFORM TO THE GOVT OFFICIALS AS THEY LOOKS LIKE UNEMPLOYED SINCE 15 YEARS.

    NO PROPER CLOTHING
    NO PROPER GROOMING ( SOMETIMES WITH CHAPPALS AND SOMETIMES WITH LUNGI )

    WHERE IS OUR SO CALLED GOVT HRD ?

    IDENTIFICATION CARD SHOULD BE VISIBLE TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC AT LEAST THEY CAN IDENTIFY THE GOVT STAFF AS SO MANY CASES HAPPENED IN AND AROUND MANGALORE POSING AS POLICE OFFICAL AND LOOTED THE INNOCENT PEOPLE !!

    As per as we are under poverty it is hard to control or eradicate the child labour or A child begging in the street,i.e totally!. Govt support to the poor/needy in this juncture by cash or kind is the most sought action of this hour while to eradicate poverty gradually. Raid in once in a blue moon in the name of child labour activity without any concrete plan is not help in anyway.

    HE MAY BE A FRONT BENCHER IN THE CHURCH.
    BUT OFTEN WE FAIL TO REALISE THAT LORD DWELLS IN A LOVING HEART AND NOT CONFINED BETWEEN NOISY WALLS OF THE CHURCH BUILDING.

    Well said that the owner of the milk booth must be punished. How about the children begging - Can you take care or your organization give them a decent living? At least that child was working to support his family at this difficult situation. No doubt! Do you have any other suggestions on those poor children who are begging, may be for a purpose?

    The child workers are more employed in begging business on the junctions,circles,bus stops,market etc in the main cities .This need to be first stopped and then to shops and industries.Hope,our police department will look into this matter and do the needful urgently.Thanq.

    The most cruel form of child labour is child begging. these so called poor people are actually lazy people and do not want to work and get easy money producing children and selling them to beggars in begging and other sources is become the easiest way to earn good money. such people should be banished from society. last but not least pls. donot encourage child begging becose by doing so more children are bought in begging racket. little infants in arms of women are even given drugs and sleeping table so that they sleep through out the begging ordeal. Pls. help to rehabiltate such children. Jeevan, can you or your communal minded leaders guarantee the rehabilitation and welfare of this little 13 yr old boy including the rehabilitation of all child beggars and infants ofcourse, their welfare should be monitored and again we should not find them begging on streets.

    "Raid by Labor dept." Wah, what an achievement by Labor dept. Throughout the year they sleep and suddenly wake up. What are they trying to prove ? This is the only child worker in and around them ? If so, either they are in deep sleep, blind or may be not moving around except their house and office. Go to Bajpe. Near Bus Stand there are many Restaurants where children below 10 years of age are working as table boy, tea boy etc. Even in Bar & Restaurant they serve as waiters. After rescuing this child, what will happen to the child ? They will pursue his education ? What will happen to his sick mother ? These 'raid' officers will take care of her ? They also found 15-20 children begging. What did they do for them ? Truly disgusting dept. with disgusting people.

    Let us pray for the earliest implementation of the proposed new stringent laws to safeguard the most vulnerable innocents! On our part, kindly resolve to boycott establishments that employ child labour, and also those social acquaintances who, in the guise of providing shelter to the underprivileged children, actually abuse them as slaves. This is rampant in urban areas, practiced by many people from all walks of life. I guess I will never be proud of my nation .

    Excellent drive from labor department. We have seen many children are begging on the streets Labor dept should take care of them as well,there are many reports about the children BPL who were working to meet their daily ends had been caught & send back to their parents.It is need of the hour to investigate the root cause of their begging or working and take appropriate action.Best thing Govt can do is hand over these children to christian /Hindu / Muslim missioners depending upon the children's choice and pay for their complete expenses till they become capable of decent living.
