NSUI Meet in the city
Mangalore: Show the world that Indian youth are not behind in the field of sports, said sports and youth affairs, overseas Indian affairs and programme implementation minister Oscar Fernandes.
Speaking at the programme organization for the installation ceremony of the new president of National Students Union of India held at Don Bosco, he said that the country that has made its name in education field and should not lag behind in the sports field.
It is seen that money is used for health care whereas sport keeps a person healthy, he added.
It is said that India will become a economic power. The development of a country is based on the number of youth in a given time in a country. As per this India has high number of youth, he said.
Speaking about the duties of NSUI, he said that it has to take up the responsibility of seeing that every child will get education. He also remembered the contribution given by the party leaders to the country.
Outgoing president Wilfred D'Souza recalled the support extended during his two year tenure and thanked all the well wishers. Tejaswi Raj asked the support of the students for working for the next tenure.
Congress president Blasius M D'Souza, leaders Vinay Kumar Sorake, Ivon D'Souza, Kallige Taranath Shetty, chief whip Abhayachandra Jain and others were present on the occasion.
An exhibition with a difference
Mangalore: Nakshatra Mandala, an exhibition of paintings by an artiste H N Suresh will be held from Jan 23 to Jan 28 at Prasad Art Gallery, Ballalbagh.
Suresh is working at Bharatiya Vidyabhavan, Bangalore as plan and programme director. The Mangalore branch of Vidyabhavan is exhibiting his works, stated Ganesh Somayaji of Artists Combines at a press meet in the City on Wednesday.
Nakshatra Mandala has given a new dimension to the talent and style of Suresh. It was organised earlier at Bharatiya Vidyabhavan, Bangalore in 2003 and also in England and America in 2004, he said.
The 27 stars specified in astrology have got unique places.
As the movement of the stars is in a circular format, the Nakshatra Mandala is also created in a circular form, he explained.
Karnataka Music and Dance Academy has honoured Suresh with Karnataka Kalashri award for his contribution to the field of art, education and cultural, he informed.
'Dhoom Machade' creates dhoom at Rosario hall
Mangalore: Dhoom Machade-2006, a cultural competition for Lions Club members was held at Rozario Church Hall, Pandeshwar, recently.
Lions district governor Kripa Amar Alca inaugurated. Cultural committee convener K M Sachindranath, Kumble Narasimha Prabhu, Lions district 324-D5 deputy governor Udayshankar Shet and S S Vadilal were present.
Lions representatives from Coorg, Hassan, Chikmagalur and DK participated. Mangalore Ashoknagar Lions Club bagged the overall first place while Puttur Lions Club was the runner up and Gandhinagar Lions Club got the third prize.
Shankar Sherigar goes missing
Kundapur: K Shankar Sherigar, aged 58 has been reported missing from his house Monday. In a complaint lodged at the Byndoor police station. Sherigar who had gone to grace the cattle never returned home. A resident of Padavari village, is a farmer and is five feet tall.
