Udupi, Jan 18: This renowned temple town witnessed paryaya again with Krishnapur Math Swamiji ascending the Sarvajna Peetha at the famous Rajathapeetha Puram or Udupi. The tableaux on display were a special attraction.
The Krishnapur math head was given the honour of worshipping Lord Krishna for the third time. The main diety is the Dwibhuja Kaliyamathana and apart from this, Madhwacharya has also given Narasimha deity to the math.
Out of the numerous contributions by the mutt is the donation of the biggest chariot in Udupi, popularly known as Brahma ratha. The 13th pontiff in the linage, Vidyasamudrateertha is said to have given the chariot to the math.
Vidyapurnateertha, the 32nd swamiji, contributed a golden palanquin for Lord Krishna. He also renovated the Simhasana, Sooryashala & Chandrashala and got built the Gopuram of Krishna math. Also he is believed to have the sculptures depicting the 10 avatars of Lord Vishnu found on the top walls of the sanctum sanctorium. He also completely rebuilt one half of chouki, kitchen and the well.
