Mangalore-Suratkal, Jan 17: The police have arrested two of the five members of a gang who were armed with weapons and were preparing for an assault on the Kulai-Kana road near Kulaigudde, on Monday January 16 evening.
A Maruti 800 car and 6 swords have been seized from the arrested, who have been identified as Harish Karkera (30), resident of Munchur and Ganesh Poojary (22), of Madupadavu. A case has been registered against the absconding trio Satish Dugganna of Munchooru, Vishwanath and Santhosh. The first mentioned is said to be the son of a female corporator.
On receiving a sure tip-off, the police drove to Kulaigudde, where the culprits had stationed the Maruti 800 as a barricade on the road, waiting to assault a member of another community.
On spotting the police vehicle, three of the miscreants fled the scene, while two of them attempted to escape in the same car. The police chased the car and were able to nab the duo on the national highway near Suratkal junction.
