Udupi: Two rape accused sent to five-day police custody, court orders DNA test

Udupi, Jul 1: Hariprasad and Anand, two of the accused in the Manipal gang-rape case, were on Monday July 1 produced in the district court here and remanded in five days of police custody.
The court also ordered their DNA test.
Anand was discharged from hospital on Sunday June 30, after recuperating from a failed suicide bid. Yogish, the other accused who had also attempted suicide, is still in hospital. His condition is said to be improving.
Hariprasad had already been produced in court three days ago and remanded in police custody for five days.
Before being produced in court, both Anand and Harisprasad were taken to government hospital in Ajjarkad for medical examination.
It is not yet known when the DNA test will be conducted.
The three accused in the Manipal gang-rape case were caught on June 27 amidst dramatic events. Yogish had called the IGP and confessed to the crime before committing suicide, while Anand, who was absconding the entire day, was found in the midst of suicide attempt near his house the same evening. Both were admitted to KMC hospital, Manipal. The victim too is recuperating in hospital.
