Mumbai, Jul 1:  The unified effort is essential to foster Tulu.  Sa Daya is an excellent writer.  It’s irony that when a MLA hailing from coastal district has come forward to take the oath in the legislative assembly in his native Tulu; he was restrained to do so. 

Meanwhile, how many people in Karnataka really know English?  The need of the hour is to oppose the bias to Tulu.  It’s essential to wage struggle by the people who know the significance of Tulu, in getting classical status to mother tongue Tulu.  It has not been nurtured by the royal kingdoms in the past.  The setbacks to Tulu is attributed to soft stand by the regional people when the states were divided on linguists basis, said M.B.Kukyan, honorary editor of Akshaya, Kannada monthly of Billawar Association Mumbai.

M.B.Kukyan was speaking after releasing ‘Gurugunji’ Kannada book based on the biography of Professor Sitaram R.Shetty, authored by award winner dramatist director, poet Sa Daya (Dayanand Salian) published by metro based Chukki Sankula.  The programme was organized at the aegis of Karnataka Sangh Mumbai at Samarasa Bhavan, here on Saturday June 29 evening.

Professor Sitaram Shetty, Thane Bunts president chartered accountant Karunakar Shetty, Yaksha Manasa president Shekar R.Shetty were the chief guests of the occasion.

Dr, Bharat Kumar in his presidential address said that Professor Sitaram Shetty has a multifaceted personality who is always creative, while Sa Daya has filtered his thoughts in the book Gurugunji, that is rich in experience meant for future generation to get inspiration to take interest in Kannada literature, said Dr Bharat.

Karunakar Shetty said that he knows Professor Sitaram for over three-and-a-half decades and was convinced of his social and literary contributions.

Shekar Shetty said that Mumbai University has recognized the literary contributions of Professor Sitaram who has rare qualities that should be made known to the world, hoped Shekar.

Professor Sitaram said that he has been intrigued with the question whether there is a need to pen the biography of a person.  Meanwhile, if someone strived with a social concern, then its alright to author for the benefit of new generation.  Sa Daya has done just that, said Professor Sitaram.

The advocate K P Prakash L Shetty, senior journalist Chandrashekar Palettady, Raja V Salian, Sanat Kumar Jain, Shimunje Parari, B S Kurkal, Dr Sunita M Shetty, H B L Rao, Mohan Marnad, Omdas Kannangar, lawyer Amita Bhagwat, Nayana Dayanand and Raghavendra Dayanand and other dignitaries were present at the occasion.

Chukki Sankula Publications proprietor congratulated Sa Daya for his book based on biography of Professor Sitaram Shetty. Gopal Trasi welcomed the gathering.  G P Kusuma compered the programme.
