Mangalore: Several injured as bus hits lorry while trying to overtake

Mangalore, Jul 1: Several persons were injured after an express bus hit a lorry in a bid to overtake near Mukka checkpost here on Sunday June 30 evening.

While the lorry driver sustained serious injuries on a his leg, the passengers in the bus escaped with minor injuries.

The accident occured when the express private bus plying from Manipal to Mangalore tried to overtake another vehicle and hit the lorry approaching from the opposite direction.

The impact of the collision was such that the front part of the bus was completely damaged and so also a part of the lorry.

The lorry driver's leg got stuck in the vehicle and the locals with some effort got him out.

More than 10 people in the bus were injured and admitted to nearby hospital.

It is learnt that the recklessness of the bus driver had caused the accident.

Suratkal police have registered a case.

    Please send these pictures to all RTO's who issue licenses to the perfect future DRIVERS.ALL RTOS SHOULD BE SENT TO EUROPE AND EVEN TO MIDDLE east for their training.Only ONE percent will pass then.What to do after all money that matters for those poorly paid RTO's. I hvae only 40 years of driving practice in India with ZERO accidents. Do any driver dip the head lights in the night for the on-coming vehicles?. 99 percent trucks do not have their rear lights on during night.who bothers.

    Just thank our Almighty God that there were no fatalities in this horrible accident. Mukka check post is a dangerous spot and there are several accidents in this spot. The police have to do something about this.

    Thanks to the good roads-thanks to the bus owners- thanks to the truck owners-thanks to
    the police.
    Looks like since we have 1.2 billion people there is o problem in loosing lives left -right and center.
    There is no quality - and value for life in india.
    Only the top brass -politicians and rich people do.
    can the nation -federal govt and the state govt come out with stringent -by law.
    standards and specifications.building codes-
    strict policies.
    There gotto be International standards in any civil construction -
    and no Jugaad.
    look who is over speeding-over taking-
    where are the police ?
    is there any insurance?
    where is the state police PETROL?
    satellite policing of streets.
    First of all build proper roads only for heavy traffic atleast each side 6 lanes.
    Lay down speed limits.
    Induct eye pass or easy pass systems.
    follow american/german/japanese specs.
    other wise you would be loosing invaluable -young -innocent lives by the day.

    Hey you people...Why didn't any of you blame the company's in charge of the highway work & the government who did not release the funds on time & which is going at snails pace??????Sorry to hear tht accident but thank God it's much less than what it was a few years back when there was a single road..
    As for Mr. Oscar Fernandes Traveling by that route do you think any driver would over speed? Why you guys not blaming the BJP who was ruling for so many years & targeting Congress who just took over a month back..Grow up guys..

    How come bus driver not injured, public should catch him and put inside bus and give fire till he half burnt. because he should realise the injured passengers pain, I request police should not release the bus, also insurance company not to repair the bus till case is over.

    Time to fix Speed governors on these buses & speed to be controlled by RTO. Also RTO should think of having GPS Tracking system fixed to these buses to monitor their speed & implement appropriate fines for overspeading. This will safeguard life of many passengers & other road travelers.

    These areas from Haleangadi to Surthkal is very dangerous..
    especially Srinivas hospital area curve..

    private bus drivers to be taken for a road & drive safety lessons by RTO in order to minimize these unnecessary overtaking at an overspped which causes accidents

    looks no use in any recommendation nor any inputs. RTO looks decided we will not listen anything. Or else it's not possible for any organization to justify what's happening. everyday so many accidents, people dying on the spots, so many 2 wheelers died because of these bloody bus drivers. Why not RTO take a single step for the public, stop licences of all these private busses and deploy goverment busses. We are ready to compromise with luxury. We don't want all these luxury Video coach busses which may kill us or our loved ones. We are ok with Gverment busses with out any luxury , but ensure all these accidents to be reduced at least 80 %. These drivers will come to know then, when they are hungry and jobless. It's heights that RTO is still silent ... above all our MLAs.

    Most of the accidents and deaths take place because of the carelessness of the drivers, a couple of months ago a similar accident had taken place at Bhatkal.
    first of all on busy line like Manipal Mangalore the driver should never overtake, even if he wants to overtake on a clear road,
    he must have the full co-operation of the driver whom he wants to overtake, sometimes the driver on the LHS does not want to co-operate, so both speed fast and suddenly other vehicle comes from the opposite side as it happened in this case and then the crash. In india drivers are careless, I
    remember a few years ago I was travelling in a luxury bus from New York Port Authority bus stand
    to washington, a clean 7 hours journey, I was very keenly watching, not once the driver overtook, he was on his line throught. This is called safe driving and when I got down I congratulated him.

    No need to blame either on Drivers or Ministers..
    Firstly..If driving carefully and bit slow..passenger's itself blame on Driver..as he his not good driver..
    and make late to reach the destination..!! sabar nahin hai..!!
    -Secondly.. If Driver drive fast without any mistakes and reach destionation before time.. passengers itself praise driver and bus which belonged..Experienced Driver..
    -Thirdly..If anyone involved in accident..same passengers blame everybody..driver/cleaner/there family members/owner/ministers/irrigation minister/health minister/central..

    There is only one way hand over all the privated buses from kundapur to mangalore to KSRTC? Only then these reckless driving can be avoided. If it's a rape there is only one victim, but these drivers are playing with at least 70 lives, imagine the punishment they deserve.

    Dear MLAs of the twin district Udupi & DK,

    We as general public voted you this time to make sure there will a change and this will effect immediately when you come to power. And one of the change we are expecting is to control these reckless driving of these express and city bus drivers. We dont know how you will do it. May be you can cancel the license of the driver and the bus operator, or you can complete abolish this private buses who do not value human life and instead put some good number of government buses. Or hand over the bus operation to one or two particular transport companies who can manage the operation in a professional way and they will be answerable to any casualties occurring from reckless driving. Right now there are hundreds of private buses owned by individuals without proper ethics. Corporatize the transport services in Udupi & DK and see the difference. Thats what we will call as a real change. Can you do this? or you want us to vote you people out next time???

    When Yashpal Suvarna questioned the private bus driver 3 weeks back, he did not get proper support, just because he belongs to BJP. Today another accident...!! Good that lorry driver does not belong to BJP..., so that action on bus drivers can be taken at least now..!

    I really dont understand the reluctance on part of the government to cancel all private bus permits on Mangalore - Kundapur road and start plying KSRTC buses. The private buses bully other road users and have scant regard for other vehicles. How many more lives have to be lost and how many more people need to be intimidated by these private buses before government decides to ply KSRTC buses? Earlier, Bangalore- Mangalore route used to be dominated by private players, now, KSRTC is the first choice of people due to their punctuality and sedate driving style. Same thing should be replicated in Mangalore-udupi route as well.

    Even city bus drivers are reckless leaving hardly any distance behind the vehicle in front. With one foot on the accelerator and one hand on the horn , noisy and rash driving is the rule. Pity the passengers who have to stand on the aisle holding on to their lives . Sudden applying of breaks throws these standees off balance causing falls and sprains. A speed limit of 40 kms/hr should be mandated and violation of this should result in arrest and detention. Bus drivers cannot take passengers, lives for granted. Bus owners should also be held responsible for any injuries to passengers.

    Here we go again. When these rash drivers, especially of express buses, learn to slow down. Thankfully, not much damage on this occasion. It could have been a disaster the way the accident happened. Lucky the driver survived as well with a injured leg though. Wish speedy recovery to the injured people.

    Its safer to go to the pakistan border than travel in the buses here or even ride besides them...Just a month ago one of these killed an innocent person in manipal..all owned by MLAs or other top notch..Time to compulsorily put in speed limiters.. Police?Can You?
