Udupi, Jun 30: Anand, one of the three persons accused in the Manipal gang-rape, was on Sunday June 30 discharged from KMC hospital, Manipal. He had attempted suicide on June 27 fearing police arrest.
He was taken to Manipal police station under tight security and lodged there.
Sources said that he would be produced in court on Monday July 1.
Meanwhile the condition of Yogish, the other accused who had attempted suicide, is said to be slightly better.
Anand from Sannakkibettu in Badagubettu village had developed cold feet after coming to know that Yogish and Hariprasad were arrested. Not knowing what to do, he swallowed some tablets at home. When it did not work, out of fear of being arrested, he tried to commit suicide by hanging himself from a tree. He was rescued by his family members and the policemen, and admitted into KMC hospital, Manipal. A complaint of suicide in this connection was filed in Manipal police station.
A similar complaint has been also filed against Yogish in Hiradka police station.
"Yogish from Kodabettu Subrayabettu had tried to commit suicide by consuming some poisonous substance between 10.30 am and 10.45 am on Thursday June 28 at a thicket by the side of our home. The locals and I rushed him to KMC hospital, Manipal for treatment," said Yogish’s elder brother Balachandra in the complaint.
A student of Manipal University was allegedly kidnapped and gang-raped by three men on the night of Thursday June 20. Yogish, Hariprasad and Anand were arrested in this regard amid suicide attempts by two of them. Hariprasad is in police custody while Yogish is still in hospital.
