Mangalore, Jun 30: A goods train hit a mini bus at Adyar crossing here on Sunday June 30, seriously injuring three women, two men and a child. One of the injured women later passed away in hospital.

The deceased has been identified as Zulaikha (60). She reportedly died of heart attack as she was diabetic and had complained of chest pain soon after the accident.

Thahira (40), Noor (8), Hussain (25), Mumtaz (35) who were injured were admitted to Father Muller Hospital. The bus driver Harish Kumar Shetty (51) sustained minor injuries.

It is said that a mini tourist bus (KA 19 C 5811) going towards Neermarga was crossing the railway track at Adyar when a goods train rammed into it. There is no gate at the railway crossing and it was unmanned.

Sources said that the bus driver did not notice the good train as a tree blocked his view. The train hit the bus on the rear end, which made it spin and fall into a ditch nearby.

The bus fell into a ditch nearby. The child was found under the bus after it had fallen, eyewitnesses said. One of the women reportedly lost a leg.

Kankanady police arrived at the spot.

A case has been registered with the city railway police.

    elephant cannot see a ant but ant can see the elephant.the minibus driver cannot see a such huge long train? his eye sight is poor or he talk nonsense.any round abouts, cross roads, railway crossings he should slow down, see the trafic then move. all drivers to be careful. drive slow and avoid death.

    Senseless driver, do not have time to look right and left before crossing. Driving Licenses of such drivers should be cancelled for another 10 years. This is how to control and discipline the tempo and auto drivers.

    Next one will be at Volachil crossing where Rickshaw drivers trying to beat the train. These rickshaws carry minimum of 6 youths of Srinivas college and try to run a on coming train. I have seen it so many times,now I decided to ignore. I have spoken to head of college at Pandeswar but with no result. Sometimes 2 people sit on drivers seat along with driver, If the load of youth shifts,the rickshaw will land 200 feet down the gorge. Then they will blame the railways.

    If the corssing is supposed to be unmanned (without gate), it is driver's fault. If the crossing is supposed to be manned with gates, then it is railway's fault. Anyway, Kharge is railway minister now, he can either provide a gate or fire the irresponsible railway employee. It is not driver's fault in any of the cases.

    Mr. Cyril, Kirem/Mira Road/Dubai: This is not the AUTHORIZED CROSSING BUT IT IS LOCAL PEOPLE MADE CROSSING FOR THEIR CONVENIENCE. There is an authorized crossing with gates. THIS IS MAN MADE DISASTER AND DO NOT hold Railways responsible for this.
    Sometime back, I had posted comments on Daijiworld about people crossing the Four Lane Highway having Divider between Kannur Check Post - Adyar - Farangipete - Thumbe, even though there is over bridge near Adyar which local people do not use it, beside MANY OF THE TWO WHEELERS AND AUTOS entering the road from the wrong direction just to save few metes resulting in Short Cut to life. I drive on this this highway and it is a nightmare to drive between Kannur Checkpost-Adyar-Farangipete-Thumbe. Even I travel by train between Mangalore -Bangalore-Mangalore frequently and last trip was last Sunday. I have seen how people cross the track at this point when the train approaches. It is simple that the people residing between Kannur Checkpost-Adyar-Farangipete-Thumbe Have No Road Sense and Train Track Crossing sense. If you question them, they hurl abusive language. It is better we take care of ourselves while driving and crossing the tracks.I request the NRI Daijiworld readers, do not comment without knowing the facts and reality. JAI HIND, Jai Karnataka.

    There should be proper hump to reduce the speed to zero before the vehicle cross railway track, seems people who prepare the road neglected safety here. Wish those who injured recover soon & the concerned authority take some responsibility to avoid such incidents in future.

    Even in USA there are un manned level crossings.The vehicles crossing the railway line should be careful and watchful.There is no point in blaming the railways as it is not possible and necessary to provide manned crossings everywhere.

    sickening to see such accidents again and again....if one can buy Driving License for few hundred rupees from RTO, even God can't save us on the Road. No driving sense, no discipline, over speed & above all carelessness. May the injured women & child get well soon.
