The sensational Konkani play will be performed by members of Daiji Rang Mandhir of Dubai and it will be the fourth show to be staged by the extremely talented team, earlier being staged in Dubai, Udupi, and Bangalore.
The Original play written by Madhusudan Kalekar in Marathi, then played in Kannada translated by Ramanand Choorya (NaviIlladaga) has created ripples wherever and whenever it has been performed.
The play, a blend of emotion, suspense and comedy has captured the hearts of Konkani theatre lovers with its electrifying moments and high voltage performance by amateur performers from Daiji Rang Mandhir.
The play is based on the true life story of a Naval Commander and his family, which became a sensational case in Maharashtra back in 1959. This play has created a record with over 5000 shows in Marathi, Kannada, Konkani and Tulu, which also has inspired Bollywood movies in the 60’s and 70’s.
It is a rare opportunity for Abu Dhabi’s as well as UAE’s Konkani lovers to witness this top class drama as the show had been performed to a full house in Dubai in April 2012 at Dubai’s Shk. Rashid Auditorium. It is also a gesture towards helping a genuine cause of building new church structures at Musaffah, Abu Dhabi and also extension/reconstruction at the current church premises.
The popular Konkani theatre personality, Writer/Director Dayan D’Souza is directing the play with a key role for himself, while Walter Nandalike of daijiworld will play the lead role of the naval officer along with Dubai’s brilliant star cast of amateur artistes will be featuring in this play.
The St. Joseph’s Parish Church was built in 1965 on Abu Dhabi Corniche Road and was moved to the present location in 1983. There are about 100,000 expatriates Catholics in Abu Dhabi coming from various parts of the world. With growing economy there is steady increase in faithful attending church services. Masses are celebrated in different languages to cater to the need of the faithful and current space at the vicinity is crowded and beyond its capacity. Envisaging this the St. Joseph church Cathedral authorities planned to extend/reconstruct the adjacent building and convert it into a spacious hall to conduct masses and other prayer services. Also to cater the devotees residing in the Musaffah , Bani Yas, shahmah areas of Abu Dhabi, under the benevolence of the Royal Family of Abu Dhabi on land they provided, a brand new church will be built at Musaffah to meet the spiritual needs of the Catholic Community in that area.
The cost to build these churches is considerable and therefore the Catholic Konkani Community of Abu Dhabi have come forward to stage this wonderful play to help the church authorities in whatever way they can. They expect all generous people to come forward to lend a hand to support their cause.
