Sr Caroline Fernandes to take charge as Provincial of Pune Province

Kundapur, Jun 28: Sr Caroline Fernandes of Piusnagar, Kundapur, belonging to the congregation of Sisters of the Cross of Chavanod will be taking charge as the Provincial of the Pune Province on Saturday, June 29. The Pune Province covers Mumbai, Goa, Aurangabad, Thane, Raigad Jalgaon and Belgaum.
Born on November 1, 1955 as the ninth among 14 children of late Julian Fernandes, a teacher and late Pauline Fernandes, Sr Caroline has been serving the congregation of Sisters of the Cross of Chavanod for the last 38 years in various capacities. Her journey to the position of the Provincial has been quite amazing and rewarding.
Sr Caroline had her initial education at St Joseph’s Convent School in Kundapur from where she completed SSLC studies and joined the congregation of Sisters of the Cross of Chavanod in 1975. She completed her novitiate at Amaravati and continued her graduate studies acquiring BA degree from Nagpur University and B Ed from Mumbai University. Sr Caroline had her First Profession in 1978 and Final profession in 1985. She also completed the Bachelor of Theology (B Th) course later.
During the past 38 years, Sr Caroline served in various capacities in different places. She served as a teacher in Akola, Boarding Mistress in Siolim, Goa, Vocation Promoter in Goa for four years, Novice Mistress at Pune Province for eight years and General Counselor at Geneva for twelve years.
It is a matter of great pride to Sr Caroline that two of her sisters are presently serving in the congregation of Apostolic Carmelite (AC). Sr Noreen is presently serving in the district of Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh and Sr Millicent is in Nagpur. One of Sr Caroline’s brothers, Fr Valerian Fernandes is a diocesan priest serving in the Diocese of Aurangabad.
In carrying out her responsibilities as the Provincial of the Pune Province, Sr Caroline will be assisted by the following counselors: Sr Gertude Vaz, Sr Lizzie George, Sr Emily Pulikkottil and Sr Jennifer Ferrao.
