Bangalore, Jan 16: The Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS) has urged the State government to abolish the practice of women working on night shifts especially in IT, BT and BPO companies in view of poor security arrangements provided for women employees.
Addressing the 16th Tri-Annual Regional Conference of Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh in Bangalore on Sunday, Uday Rao Patwardhan, BMS National General Secretary, said “the State government should direct the companies to enforce strict security regulations. If companies violate rules, their licences should be withdrawn.”
He charged the government with being lenient with MNCs. The government is least interested in the welfare of the employees even as they work long hours and remain underpaid, he said.
Quoting a study on women employees, Patwardhan said that of every hundred working women, 85 are facing work-related problems, but the issue is yet to receive due attention. He urged the State government to hold a meeting with all the employees’ associations to discuss problems of women employees.
He said the status of employees in every industry is being reduced to slavery. The capitalists lobby is increasingly silencing the voice of employees.
A memorandum containing demands and suggestions made at the meet would be handed over to the State, said A Venkatram, BMS State unit president.
